Clarity before you make a decision.

Tell us why you need a value

A selling estimate, a written appraisal and a valuation for a specific reporting purpose are different assignments. Start by telling us what you need the information for, who will use it and whether there are required formats or qualifications. We can then discuss the appropriate scope or the need for a specialist.

Review the belongings in context

Condition, maker, age, provenance and current market demand can all affect a valuation. Clear photographs, marks or labels, receipts and prior documentation help establish what an item is. Avoid cleaning, polishing or altering potentially collectible objects before they are reviewed.

Selling estimates have limits

An auction estimate is a guide to potential results in a particular market, not a guaranteed selling price. The price an item once cost, an online asking price and the amount a buyer will pay today may be very different. We explain the intended use and limits of the opinion being provided.

Confirm the deliverable in advance

For insurance, tax, court or other formal use, confirm the required credentials, methodology and report with the requesting professional before commissioning work. Do not assume that a sales consultation meets those requirements. Scope, fees and the form of any written work should be agreed before the assignment begins.
